What else am I working on? This is one of the best posts I’ve seen about starting a blog with intent to monetize. I’ve been trying to find the most simplistic way to do so over the years. I write – ALOT – and have had a few different incarnations of blog types, but now own my namesake domain through Word Press. This is quite frankly one of the most simplistic views for people just starting. I’d love to know if you have a post taking it one step further into the ins and outs of the niche of monetizing a blog!
Jo If you can use other ways to monetize your blog, you should. For some blogs it makes more sense to focus more on building an email list rather than losing visitors for a few cents.
5 list ideas you would write for us, with two example items that would be on each list.

I don’t think enough can be said for working a part time job. In this last year I finally set out to claim my stake in the internet world after years of saying “maybe tomorrow”, and your blog was one of the big ones that helped me devise a strategy for going forward and putting my ideas into practice. Because despite all my ambitions, I didn’t know what to do – originally I wanted to move forward with 2 blogs and expected to get to 1000 subscribers in a couple months, but I know that’s not really realistic now.

Dear Bitter Bill, Awesome post to make money via blogging in 2016. As today many bloggers are struggling to make money and choosing the right path to make money. So I say monetization is not the right way to make money instead use alternative methods you have already described above. So thank you.
If they say no, ask why not, keeping in mind that some bad referrals may be the result of a client not having realistic expectations of their writer.

Estimating exactly what you will make is pretty difficult, but a high traffic blog on the right topic has the potential to bring in several thousand dollars every month. Of course, many people earn less than this, and some earn even more. In fact, it has been estimated that some top AdSense publishers earn nearly $2 million per year just from AdSense.

Thank you for this helpful and informative post! #2: Forget about Adsense. Google Adsense can be decent source of income for sites with a high volume of organic search traffic, but for a new site it will be pennies and will only serve as a distraction. If you focus on a tight niche and deliver great content, even a small audience will make you more through affiliate marketing of relevant products and services.
I will prepare any kind of business plan Anyway Jon, keep it coming, this blog is absolutely essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how our new digital world works!
August 26 at 11:18 pm These are all great ideas. The problem, which I haven’t heard anyone address, is that all these places want to see a portfolio of your work. If you’re just starting out, it’s not likely you have one. In my case, I did extensive technical and creative writing for my previous company but it was all considered intellectual property for them, thereby preventing me from including it in any personal portfolio of mine. How does one build a portfolio if you already need one to get started?

Hi Elna I am interested in writing. In high school I actually wanted to become a writer for photography, blogs, health, creative writing. But now about 8 years later I have no experience and no schooling but would love to get into it. Where do I start even creating a portfolio? I’d love to take your class but unfortunately I do not have any upfront money for that. Thank you in advance if you reply.
October 18, 2016 at 9:43 pm Personally, I never used this approach only because it’s a one-off gig. You write the piece, pitch, wait to see if it’s approved, then get paid a few weeks later. Then you do it all over again.

Research which keywords your audience is typing into search engines. You can do this by using keyword tools like SemRush, Ahrefs, and the Google Keyword Tool. (Ideally, you want to choose keywords that have lots of search volume, but low competition.)
